Our Lady of Mount Carmel Book Club
By meeting together we have more opportunity to engage with the book and learn from others. There is a wealth of great books on offer. The selection for books for 2018 follows suggestions from last year. Each book is relatively short and inexpensive. Time can often get away from us. If you have read some of the books but not all you can still contribute and you can certainly listen to others. Sharing our reading with others allows us the opportunity to hear their thoughts and perhaps refine our own. Prior to the book reflection month there will be a video presentation in the Meeting Room. This will help you understand the author and have time to ask questions of other readers about the book to be read for the following month.
If you have difficulty obtaining any book or any other questions please ring colleen through the parish office
Meeting on the third Wednesday of each month from February to November.
Meeting begins after Mass - about 9.30 until about 11 a.m. in the Meeting Room,
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Varroville.
The aim of this book club is to read contemporary books by Catholic authors, reflect on their writings and deepen our faith.
Five books are chosen for each year. The books are by quality authors, cost less than $20 and are of reasonable length.
Books can be ordered through the Book Club.
It may be that some of the books can be borrowed from libraries or friends.
If you cannot commit to the full series you are most welcome to attend individual sessions or even just the video sessions.
The Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month. One month we view a video about the author, topic or book.
The following month we reflect on the book.
The group decided that it is better to reflect on the individual chapters of the book rather than the book as a whole.
The sessions usually finish between 11 and 12.
The books can be bought from various outlets. Some may even be available online.
All the books for 2018 are under $20.
You are encouraged to read as much of the book as possible for your own benefit.
Using sticky notes, paper markers or making notes in a notebook are helpful when reading these books.
